Swim Team

The Farmstead Flying Fish Swim Team program encourages the involvement and commitment of both parents and their children. It seeks to foster an environment where swimmers gain a sense of accomplishment and develop sportsmanship and their competitive abilities.

Skills needed to compete

Swimmers age 8 and under must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted. Swimmers age 9 and older must be able to swim two lengths of the pool unassisted. “Unassisted” means without pulling on the lane line or touching the bottom of the pool. Proper strokes are required. Children age 6 and under swim on an exhibition basis only.
While swimmers will improve stroke and technique, practices are not individually focused. Swim team is not a substitute for swim lessons, which the club offers.

Time commitment

Team practices are in the three different practice groups each morning, Monday through Friday. Swimmers are placed in each practice group based primarily on their age. Meets are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The swim team relies on the commitment of time by each family. Parents are required to work at various jobs at swim meets. Swim meets are a fun atmosphere where everyone can get involved.

Swim team fees

Any child of a bondholder is eligible to join the team. For non-bondholders, our policy has been to only accept swimmers in age groups where we are not already full with bondholder swimmers. Non-bondholder swimmers also are charged a higher fee. We do not accept any non-bondholder registration until we complete member registration. Registration night is in April at Madison Junior High School. Water polo registration will be at the same time and place.
